The Aeronautics and Astronautics Museum, dependent on the Ministry of Air and headquartered in Madrid, aims to acquire, conserve and exhibit the assets that constitute the Historical Heritage of Spanish Aeronautics.

Once the Air Force was created, after the Civil War, the idea was conceived of having a museum in which, as a legacy to posterity, airplanes and other objects reflecting the history and evolution of our aeronautics were exhibited.

In 1939, Colonel D. Társilo de Ugarte Fernández was appointed director of the Air Orphans Museum and Patronage. The most urgent needs of the Board of Trustees at that time delayed this museum project. In December 1948 a museum project was drawn up to be installed on the ground floor of the Ministry of Air building in Madrid. On June 16, 1966, and by Decree No. 1437, was created the Museum of Aeronautics and Astronautics, under the Ministry of Air and headquartered in Madrid. Since 1975, the Museum has been in Cuatro Vientos and several extensions have been carried out, making it a European reference in aeronautics.

This guide with more than three hundred illustrations in full color, and on high quality paper is ideal for lovers of History and Aeronautics. It shows the outdoor exhibition and the seven hangars that house aircraft, uniforms, decorations, engines, models and other funds related to aviation.
